People today are more nomadic than we have been in recent generations. Thankfully, the net of technology that encompasses the globe makes staying in touch with family and friends relatively easy. This is assuming of course that you take the proper steps to keep the lines of communication open.
One of the most preferred methods of staying in touch is by email. It is easy, convenient, and free. The happiness trifecta. One thing that can break down this trifecta is if you only have one email account. There are generally three groups that have reasons for having only one email account. They received their email account through their internet service provider or their employer and they are content at that. The second reason is that they view email and technology as a necessary evil and only embrace it as much as is needed. The third group is a combination of the first two groups. To all of the groups, I say in my best Darth Vader voice, come to the dark side.
Now that I have frightened you, I’ll give you the reasons why you should expand your email horizons. In technology like life, you should hope for the best but prepare for the worst. If you only have one email account and you relocate, what happens to all of the emails that where in that account? In short, you loose them. Also, you would have to reestablish your email address book and ensure that everyone had your new account every time that you relocated.
The solution to this is simple and quick. There are many good and free web based email providers. These email providers offer comparable or better features than what you may find from your employer or internet provider. Also, the more email accounts that you have, the easier it is to buffer your self from spammers and undesirables. You can distribute your preferred email account to your family and close friends. Think of it sort of like a VIP pass to the VIP lounge. While people that you may not want to hear from, can receive your I do not want to be bothered email address. This is the account that you seldom check and the one that you use when a site on the net asks you to enter an email address. You may be concerned with having to remember multiple passwords. All that you need to do is use the same passwords for the accounts that you are not concerned with.
Some of the most prominent free email providers are hotmail.com and yahoo.com. If you don’t find either of these to your liking, have no fear. You can find a plethora of free email providers on the net without too much of a search. Seriously speaking, I hope that you see the benefit of having multiple email accounts and reap the many amenities of this technology. As always, feel free to email me with questions, gripes, or concerns. Well, maybe just the questions.
